Throughout his incredible life, Will demonstrated a remarkable ability to reach far and wide into the hearts and minds of those around him. It is a rare trait for such a young man to leave such an indelible impression on each person he met.
And yet how could he not leave such an impression? A tall figure with a charming and boyish grin, equipped with astounding intellect and wit, and a penchant for engrossing conversation and banter. He pursued his goals and passions with a rare ardour that arose from the depths of his determination and his boundless love of life. Will had an extraordinary capacity to reframe challenges, no matter how overwhelming, into opportunities. He could look past all the effort and difficulty toward a clear objective and could thus work towards that goal with singular focus. His willpower and dedication were unmatched. He was so ambitious not just in his goals but in his ability to put his head down and get the work done. In everything he did, he had the mentality of an athlete in flow state, and this led to such overwhelming success in so many fields it blew us all away.
Academically, he thrived beyond measure, with an ATAR above 99. On the sports field, he was a star, kicking the winning goal of his college football grand final this season. In the realm of languages, he was a force of nature. He achieved a scaled 50 in Latin, was awarded the prestigious Scholarship for Australian German Student Exchange and later became the Vice-President of the University of Melbourne’s German Club. He was also a proud member of Trinity College. Musically, he yet again found great success in both piano and double bass.
The one quality of his that outweighed his limitless determination was his deep love for his friends and family. He was unafraid to vocalise his love and did so earnestly. He was dependable, unwaveringly by his loved ones’ side through triumphs and hardship. He was utterly kind and consistent in this kindness whether he encountered friend or stranger. Those who spoke to him could also attest to the simple fact that Will was a uniquely hilarious person. He would constantly paralyse his friends with laughter, and in his wake, he left us with unforgettable memories and the warmth of his compassion.
Few people are truly larger than life. But Will fit the description both in the breadth of his accomplishments and the depth of his character. Having said this, the most special part about Will was never inside Will. It is inside the people who love him. The beauty his presence brought still resides in us all. And in the darkness of his absence, this beauty glows undying.
Will was unshakeably loyal, unstoppably determined, and uncontrollably funny. But above all, he was a loving friend, son, and brother.
We miss you dearly, Will. You were the very best of us, and you will be loved forever.
